Youth Baking 2017
Apple Cheesecake Sauce
With Sea Salt Caramel Sauce
Crust:
* 6 tablespoons butter melted
* 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
* ¼ cup sugar
Filling:
* 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
* ½ cup sugar
* 3 eggs
* 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
* ½ teaspoon sea salt
Topping:
* ¾ cup favorite prepared caramel sauce
* Coarse crystals sea salt
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat 9x9-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
* In a medium bowl, mix melted butter, graham cracker crumbs and sugar until crumbly.
Press firmly into the bottom of the baking pan.
* In large bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, eggs, and salt. Beat at medium high speed,
until mixture is smooth about 1 to 2 minutes. Fold apple pie filling into cheesecake mixture.
Spoon mixture evenly on top of crust.
* Bake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes, until filling is set. Let cool completely.
* Just before serving, drizzle caramel sauce on top of cheesecake piece and sprinkle with a little coarse sea salt.
* For judging: bring (3) 2x2 squares on a disposable plate and attach label on the top of the plate
with the following information: Name, Age, Grange Name, number & county.
Please do not write on the bottom of the plate.

Memory/Bulletin/Chalk Board
Using materials of your choice create your own design of a Memory/Bulletin/Chalk Board
not to exceed the size an 11x17 picture frame. Include a few pictures, sayings, etc. to showcase your style.
Boards can be a combination of uses or single use. DIY and Pinterest are great resources to help you get started.
State Fair Craft

Using materials of your choice, create a garden stone. Be creative. DIY and pinterest are great resources to help you get started.
Not to exceed 18x18x18.
State Fair Youth Baking 2017
Youth Culinary Showcase Baking State Fair: Two crust pies with the recipe of your
choice must be submitted on a recipe card with the entry. No uncooked fruit will be permitted,
however you may use a lattice top. Use a disposable container for all baked goods entered.
Ages for the contest are anyone 13-1/2 to 20 and must be a subordinate member.
Entries will be made through the Ohio State Fair. For more information contact the youth directors.
Eastern Regional Youth Conference
At this time we have no further information on this conference. We will inform everyone at a later date.
Public Speaking Contest
This will be held at the Ohio State Grange Office in Fredericktown Ohio on March 18th at 1:00 p.m.
Due date for entries are on March 6th.
Public Speaking Rules:
There are categories as well as 3 age divisions as follows:
Youth 14 –21 years of age
Young Adult 22 – 35 years of age
Adult 36+ years of age.
Ages as of January 1st determine the age group. Props will be allowed, but must be appropriately sized for the room.
Points can be deducted for props.
Category A: Prepared Speech with topic of the contestant’s choice
Contestant’s in this category will be required to answer an impromptu question at the end of their speech.
The question will be related to the chosen speech topic Speeches must be a minimum of 4 minutes and
a maximum of 7 minutes.
Category B: Radio Spot Contest
Pretend you are a “DJ” & doing a commercial for the Grange. Can include 1 or 2 people.
Should be exactly 60 seconds in length and may include a musical or sound effect introduction and/or background.
The contestant must provide a complete written script (including notations about music/sound effects)
to the timekeeper to aid in timing accuracy. Musical/sound effect introductions and endings are considered a
part of the radio spot and must not cause the 60-second time limit to be exceeded. The spot should relate to the Grange,
be original and created by the contestant.
Category C: Impromptu Speeches
Participants will draw two topics, select their choice of the two and return the other one.
Impromptu speeches should be at least 1 minute in length and no longer than 7 minutes.
Timekeeper will hold up hand when the 1 minute mark has been reached and then again
at the 6:30 minute mark so the speaker knows when he/she can stop. Participants must notify
National Director of intent to enter prior to the beginning of the contest.
Sign-a-Song Contest
This will be held at the Ohio State Grange Office in Fredericktown Ohio on March 18th at 1:00 p.m.
Due date for entries are March 6th
Category A: Novice
The contestant in this category must be a beginner in sign language has had no more than
three sign language classes and has entered the sign-a-song contest no more than two years.
Category B: Hobbyist
The contestant in this category signs on an occasional basis and strictly for fun.
Also the contestant has entered the contest more than two years.
Category C: Group
Two or more people signing. Participants must sign their own name.
They must inform the audience and judges what type of sign language they will be using.
Judging for all three categories will be the same.
Summer Youth Camp
Dates for this camp is tentatively for July 6th, 7th, & 8th. Still working on place so more information will be out later.
2017 State Grange Convention
This will be held October 18th to 22nd. This will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Dublin Ohio.
For any youth who are planning on attending convention, your reservation is due to the state office by September 20th, 2017.

Anyone interested in participating in the Youth Ambassador or Young Couple contest, please fill out the application
and send it to the Youth Directors Mike & Debbie Russell. More information on this contest will be put out later.
We will also be looking for youth to take part on the Youth Opening Team. The youth will be opening the session on Saturday at noon.
